The Georgia Society of CPAs and Georgia’s Accounting Community joined forces to organize the Georgia Accounting Food Fight. The friendly rivalry, now in its 5th year, provides support to the Georgia Food Bank Association and other food banks across the state. Rumph and Associates were named the winner in the Small Firm category. All food and money raised by the firm will directly benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. For every one dollar donated, the ACFB is able to provide four meals to adults and children in need. The Rumph and Associates donation will allow the food bank to provide over 40,000 additional, nutritious meals. “Fighting hunger and providing for kids is big for us,” explains Tom Rumph, managing partner at Rumph and Associates. “We decided to really get into the food fight this year because it’s important and near and dear to us, so we put a lot of effort into it. And even though the food fight has ended, we are planning to do more. Helping others is always a priority for us.”
During the food fight, held over a two-week period in August, participants were charged with putting forth their best efforts to raise the most food and money for their regional food banks. There were several competition categories including: industry winner; sole proprietor winner; small, medium, and larger firm winners; and the Big 4 winner. In addition, two grand prize winners were announced in the Food Fight Hero and Hunger Champion categories. Over 60 accounting firms and industry accounting departments representing more than 5,000 members competed in the food fight. Those participants collectively raised a record-breaking $174,367 and 5,915 pounds of food for Georgia’s food banks (www.georgiafoodbankassociation.org). In total, the amount of money and food raised during the Georgia Accounting Food Fight will provide the equivalent of 702,399 meals for families across the state.
